  • It is highly recommended to book your tickets online. There are many options to choose from, and you can hire a local Rome guide who speaks your language. As there is a security check similar to the airport, there may be a slight queue, but not like waiting 2 to 3 hours at the entrance.
  • If you are considering purchasing your ticket at the entrance, be prepared for a very long wait. We do not recommend that at all.
  • If you want to beat the crowds and get there before the opening time, note there are other visitors who think exactly like you and are already lining up at Saint Peter’s square 2 hours before the official opening time!
  • Saturdays have one of the longest waiting lines.
  • The longest wait times are in the morning.
  • You will need at least 3 to 4 hours when you visit the Vatican. If possible, to avoid the crowds you can come here about 13:30. Basically, it is advised to come after lunchtime. The museum is open until 18:00, but some sections start closing at 17:30.
  • The last Sunday of the month offers free entry. Note, it may remain closed if there’s an important religious holiday which falls on that day.

The last Sundays are free entry, but be prepared for hours of queuing up. It is better to pay a visit on a Friday. On Saturday, most of the tourist attractions in Rome and the Vatican city are packed with tourists and visitors.
