If you are an early bird, this tour is for you! The early entrance Vatican museum tour gets you through the doors at 8.00a.m. way before the general public is allowed entry. While you avoid the crowds, your private guide will help you discover the art and history behind some of the most exquisite pieces on the planet spread across the Vatican Museums.
All private guides are fully licensed and most importantly, are passionate about art, history, and architecture. They love everything to do with the Vatican and therefore, will be more than happy to share their knowledge in this three hour tour. You will hear them share stories and mysteries of the objects and artworks stored inside. Some tales are indeed very intriguing, and at times, hard to believe.
Your guide will meet you at 7.30 a.m. and provide you a brief – especially regarding the Sistine Chapel as talking is not allowed in the chapel. You will be shown some images so that you become familiar and know what to look out for once you are in the Sistine Chapel.
As you are going to beat the crowds, you will enter the Vatican Museums at 8.00 a.m. This is a great time to start a tour, especially in summer when it swelters, and the entrance lines are nightmarish (2-3 hour wait to enter). The Vatican Galleries are massive and there is much to explore. Your guide will take you to galleries which are of your interest, but along the way, you will be taken to see Raphael’s Rooms. These are an absolute highlight of the tour. The pictorial decorations are one of a kind and every year, thousands of visitors pass through these rooms to view works such as ‘ The Disputation of the Holy Sacrament and ‘Deliverance of St Peter.’
The next part of the tour is the Sistine Chapel. Admire the work of Michelangelo. You will be able to admire the chapel in peace before the Chapel is open to the general public for the day. Your tour ends here and if you wish to visit St Peter’s Basilica, the guide can lead you through a special entrance so that you do not have to wait in the long lines outside to reenter.
